Could you imagine if you found the love of your life using a keyboard and mouse? In the US, 66% of singles used online dating to search for “the one”. “According to Forbes magazine, there are more than 2500 online dating services alone, with 1000 new services opening every year. Worldwide this comes to a whopping 8000 dating sites” (Zwilling, 2013). Seems crazy, right? Traditionally, people would meet at a common place, through mutual friends, or talking on the phone. However, this meant meeting face to face, and talking with your mouth – a lot. In the modern world now, millennials don’t like to do that, all you need is two thumbs and a phone screen to meet someone and spark up quick conversations in the comfort of your own home. It has become so much easier to sit on your butt, order food, clothes and find a boyfriend.
Don’t get me wrong, its not just dating websites that catch all the glory. Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram are also hot spots for singles meeting other singles, or breaking up the non-singles. Now meeting someone that is a friend of a friend of a friend, is as easy as a few simple clicks on your mutual friends tab. A simple “Hi, I know so-and-so…” can get the ball rolling to a relationship – or not.

On the plus side of things, internet dating makes things a heck of a lot easier. It is always available and there will always be someone looking for a relationship, or a hookup if that’s what you’re into. There’s always going to be someone that checks all the boxes for your “match made in heaven”. Whether you like tall, dark and handsome, or short, light and ugly, he or she is going to be out there for you. If you’re in the right place at the right time or rather nowadays the right site and the right time. Some websites require you to answer 100 questions for your personal preferences. Its possible to develop an entire love relationship without ever meeting someone face to face.
I think people like online dating because you can always be in-touch with someone no matter where you are and it eliminates the awkward first date where there’s a need for constant conversation. People these days want things NOW, just like fast food industries, nobody has the time or patience to wait for their own love match, or a burger.
